Special Lecture by Visiting Scholar from School of Pharmacy, Showa Medical University, Japan

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 10.00 to 11.00 a.m., the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University hosted a special lecture entitled “An Introduction to Dr. Tsuyoshi Maruyama and His Experience in Active Learning Design in Japanese Pharmacy Education.” The lecture was delivered by Asst. Prof. Dr. Tsuyoshi Maruyama, a visiting scholar from the School of Pharmacy, Showa Medical University, Japan, at Room 404, Rajaratana Building.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication, and Prof. Dr. Hitoshi Sato, Adjunct Professor from School of Pharmacy, Showa University, together with faculty members, attended the session. The lecture highlighted his experiences and approaches to designing active learning in the context of pharmacy education in Japan, with an emphasis on the application of modern tools and technologies to enhance student engagement, such as Kahoot!, Virtual Reality (VR), and Escape Room activities.

The session also provided an opportunity for faculty members to exchange ideas and best practices in active learning pedagogy, which can be applied to curriculum development and to further enhance the quality of teaching and learning in alignment with international standards. Furthermore, the activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, by promoting effective and modern teaching practices through the integration of active learning concepts and educational technologies to foster 21st-century learning skills.
