On Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 02:00 p.m. to 03:30 p.m., the Graduate Program in Health Technology Assessment (HTA) hosted a special lecture entitled “Digital and AI Health Technologies in Screening: A Broader Lens on Value” at Room V401, 4th Floor, Research Building. The event was presided over by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, Chair of the Health Technology Assessment Graduate Program, with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew and Asst. Prof. Dr. Saowalak Turongkaravee also joining the lecture.
The special lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Olivia Wu, William R. Lindsay Chair of Health Economics, Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) Unit, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. The lecture explored the value of digital and artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled health technologies in screening, with a focus on considering value from a broader perspective beyond conventional measures of health outcomes and costs. The session provided approximately 10 faculty members and postgraduate students in the HTA program with an opportunity to enhance their understanding of emerging technologies and their implications for health technology assessment, evidence generation, and healthcare decision-making.
The activity aimed to broaden participants’ perspectives on assessing the value of digital and AI health technologies and to strengthen their ability to critically evaluate emerging technologies within the context of HTA and health policy. The lecture supported the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University’s mission to produce graduates with high-quality knowledge and competencies responsive to societal needs, as well as its mission to produce and disseminate research and innovation that meets national and international standards through the exchange of advanced knowledge with an internationally recognized academic expert. Furthermore, the activity contributed to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting evidence-informed evaluation of innovative screening technologies that may support improved health outcomes, and SDG 4: Quality Education by advancing specialized learning and professional competencies in health technology assessment.
