On September 8, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., administrative members of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication; and Dr. Pongpol Thanuphol, Assistant Dean for Corporate Communication, participated in the 2026 ASEAN Pharmacy Deans Meeting, hosted by the School of Pharmacy, Taylor’s University, at the Learning Theatre, Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The meeting brought together approximately 30 deans and representatives from member institutions of the ASEAN PharmNET and was held as a pre-conference activity of the 5th ASEAN PharmNET Conference 2026, hosted by the School of Pharmacy, Taylor’s University, from September 9–11, 2026, at M World Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The meeting aimed to strengthen networking and collaboration among pharmacy education institutions across the ASEAN region, facilitate the exchange of institutional experiences and best practices, and identify opportunities for future academic and research collaboration. The agenda included introductions of member universities and representatives, discussions on membership standard operating procedures (SOPs), follow-up activities under the US-ASEAN collaboration, and exploration of NIH research opportunities to support regional research collaboration. Participants also discussed potential host institutions for future ASEAN PharmNET activities, contributing to the continued development and sustainability of the regional network. The program concluded with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony, a group photo, and a campus tour, providing additional opportunities for institutional engagement and relationship building.
In parallel with the Deans Meeting, the 2026 ASEAN Student Network Forum was organized to strengthen connections among pharmacy students from ASEAN institutions and provide a platform for cross-cultural exchange, peer learning, and the development of regional professional networks. MUPY was represented by Ms. Nicharat Akkararattanawit and Ms. Nalinee Phadungkhant, who participated in the forum and engaged with fellow pharmacy students from across the region. The student-focused activities complemented the institutional discussions by fostering connections among the next generation of pharmacy professionals and creating opportunities for future academic and collaborative initiatives.
The meeting resulted in strengthened communication and institutional relationships among ASEAN pharmacy schools, as well as the identification of potential avenues for collaborative research, international research funding, and future joint activities. Discussions on membership development and future event hosting also contributed to establishing directions for the continued growth of the ASEAN PharmNET network. Meanwhile, the ASEAN Student Network Forum expanded opportunities for students to exchange experiences and build cross-border connections. Through these activities, the event contributed to SDG 4: Quality Education by promoting academic exchange and peer learning; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by fostering inclusive opportunities for international networking and knowledge exchange; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals by strengthening institutional partnerships and regional collaboration among pharmacy education institutions across ASEAN.
