HTA Graduate Program Welcomes Prof. Kara Hanson for Special Lecture on Health Systems

On Tuesday, 20 January 2026, from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m., the Graduate Program in Health Technology Assessment (HTA), Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, organized a special lecture entitled “Collaboration to secure access to essential medicines in global health”. Held at Room 606, Rajaratana Building, the lecture was delivered by Prof. Dr. Kara Hanson, Professor of Health System Economics at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), United Kingdom.

The event was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, the Program Chair of the HTA Program, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, who joined the session and engaged in academic discussion with the speaker.

During the lecture, Prof. Dr. Kara Hanson emphasized the importance of global collaboration in securing equitable access to essential medicines. The discussion highlighted how cooperation among governments, international organizations, health systems, and key stakeholders plays a vital role in improving the availability, affordability, and accessibility of essential medicines worldwide, particularly in response to complex global health challenges.

The activity enriched the academic experience of graduate students in the HTA Program by broadening their perspectives on global health systems and health economics, while also fostering international academic collaboration. The event reflected the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University’s commitment to advancing education and research at international standards and contributed to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 4: Quality Education, through knowledge exchange and capacity building in health systems and policy.
