During September 27-28, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, was invited as a speaker and distinguished guest at the international academic conference "The 34th Singapore Pharmacy Congress" and the celebration of the 120th anniversary of Singapore's pharmacy profession, marking the establishment of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore in 1905. The event was held at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel in Singapore. He presented the advancement of Thailand's pharmacy profession, emphasizing the role of pharmacists in the universal health coverage system, both in hospitals and pharmacies that have achieved leading progress in the ASEAN region. The presentation also covered advances in the application of pharmacogenetics in patient care within the universal health coverage system.
Additionally, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan was invited to participate in the ASEAN Pharmacy Leaders Summit as one of Thailand's representatives. The summit aimed to foster ASEAN-level cooperation to drive the advancement of the pharmaceutical profession at the regional level. During the academic conference, he had the opportunity to discuss and exchange knowledge with leading academic and professional pharmacists from Singapore, including: 1) Camila Wong, Chief Pharmacist of the Ministry of Health, 2) Hong Yee Lim, President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore, and 3) Prof. Dr. Giorgia Pastorin, Head of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS), along with representatives from other ASEAN countries.
This collaboration aligns with the Faculty's mission to serve as a center for academic services in pharmaceuticals, herbal medicines, cosmetics, and food for sustainable national development. It also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all; Goal 10: reducing inequality within and among countries; and Goal 17: strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development.
