From June 3 to July 26, 2024, two 6th-year students from the Industrial Pharmacy Track of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Mahidol University (MUPY) participated in an overseas professional internship at the Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University, Japan. The participating students, Mr. Chutipat Supbungerd and Ms. Peeyatorn Tumsatan, conducted their internship under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Toshio Sakai at Department of Materials Chemistry, Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University. During their time in Prof. Sakai's laboratory, they engaged in advanced research on pharmaceutical formulation, gaining valuable hands-on experience and expanding their knowledge in the field.
Notably, this internship marked the first batch of students from MUPY to carry out their internship at the Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University, Japan. This pioneering effort laid the foundation for future collaborations between the two institutions, potentially opening doors for more MUPY students to gain similar international experiences.
Furthermore, their acceptance into this program was further supported by the 2024 Mahidol University Internship Scholarship, which facilitated their professional development in Japan. This scholarship not only underscored the importance of international exposure but also highlighted Mahidol University's commitment to fostering global competencies among its students.
The internship program was designed to provide 6th-year students with a comprehensive understanding of global knowledge and professional practices. By engaging in research and laboratory activities in Japan, the students were able to immerse themselves in a different academic culture and environment, gaining invaluable educational and cultural experiences. This initiative aimed to enhance the students' professional capacities and broaden their perspectives, ultimately contributing to the international visibility and reputation of MUPY. In addition to their academic and professional growth, the participating students had the opportunity to explore Japanese culture and traditions, enriching their personal and social skills. This experience was expected to have a lasting impact on their future careers, equipping them with a unique blend of scientific expertise and cross-cultural understanding.
Furthermore, this overseas internship program strengthened a strong relationship between MUPY and the Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University. It also corresponded to the Faculty of Pharmacy's Mission of producing graduates with equivalent quality to leading pharmacy institutions in Asia, equipped with morality and competency to serve the societal need. It also responded to SDG’s Goal 4: Quality Education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
