MUPY Executives Attend the Opening Ceremony of the 28th Royal Initiative Training Program and Welcome Pharmacists from Lao PDR

On Monday, February 2, 2026, from 09:00 to 12:00 hrs., Associate Professor Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communication, representing the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), together with Assistant Professor Dr. Krisada Sakchaisri, faculty member of the Department of Pharmacology, attended the opening ceremony of the “Medical and Public Health Technology Training Program for Personnel from the Lao People's Democratic Republic under the Royal Initiative of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Batch 28 (Year 2026).” The ceremony was organized by the Office of the Royal Development Projects under the Royal Initiative of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, Bureau of the Royal Household, and was held at the Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University.

The opening ceremony was presided over by distinguished dignitaries who delivered welcoming remarks, including Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Mahidol University's Vice President for Strategic Planning, Quality Development and Social Engagement; Mr. Chulavat Narintrangkul Na Ayudhya, Director-General of the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA); H.E. Mr. Sisavath Inphachanh, Ambassador of the Lao People's Democratic Republic to Thailand; and Professor Emeritus Dr. Kraisid Tontisirin, Advisor to the Royal Project. The session also featured a special lecture titled “The Royal Duties of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn” by Assoc. Prof. Nantaporn Veeravat, Advisor to the Royal Project.

Following the main ceremony, the Faculty of Pharmacy organized an orientation session to welcome five pharmacists from Lao PDR participating in the Pharmacy Program. The welcoming committee included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for International Relations and Corporate Communication; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichit Nosoongnoen, Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somying Pumtong. The program, scheduled from February 2 to March 6, 2026, is a collaborative effort involving the Office of the Royal Development Projects, TICA, and Mahidol University. It aims to enhance professional knowledge and skills in healthcare, facilitate the exchange of experiences, and foster teamwork among healthcare professionals. The five participants in the pharmacy track are Mr. Sengphed Southivong, Ms. Phetsamy, Ms. Phimpha Sinthavong, Ms. Moukdavanh Soythavongsa, and Ms. Vongphet Phomsouvanh.

This training program not only strengthens the diplomatic and professional bonds between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Lao People's Democratic Republic but also significantly contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). By empowering healthcare personnel with advanced medical technology and knowledge, the initiative directly supports Goal 3: Good Health and Well-being, ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all. It also fosters Goal 4: Quality Education by providing inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Furthermore, the program addresses Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities by bridging the gap in healthcare capabilities between nations, and underscores Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, demonstrating a robust global partnership for sustainable development through cross-border cooperation.
