On September 14th, 2015, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), in collaboration with King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi, Kyoto Prefectural University, and Kagoshima University have hosted a joint symposium entitled “Basic and Applied Studies of Natural Products”. The purpose of the symposium were to share and discuss on the mutual topics related to natural products, and to promote academic network for further cooperation in cross-country education and research. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chuthamanee Suthisisang, MUPY Dean, has presided over the symposium and gave welcoming speech to honored audiences. This international symposium would help increasing MUPY staff and students’ capacity as well as enhancing MUPY international visibility.
The symposium topics included ’Expectation of health benefits in plant materials in Southeast Asia based on Washoku (Japanese cuisine) study by Professor Yasushi Nakamura from Kyoto Prefectural University, ’Chemical characteristics and attractive functions of Japanese persimmon polyphenols’ by Professor Emeritus Tomoaki Matsuo from Kagoshima University, ’Do unfavourable growth conditions impact on production of secondary metabolites in herbaceous plants?’ by Associate Professor Shigehisa Okamoto from Kagoshima University, and ’Bioactive compounds in tropical fruits post-harvest’ by Assistant Professor Chalermchai Wongs-Aree from King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi.
