On Monday, November 17, 2025, from 10.00 AM to 4.00 PM, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), visited the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Illinois, USA. He was warmly welcomed by Prof. Glen Schumock, Dean of UIC College of Pharmacy, Prof. Alan Lau (Director of International Clinical Pharmacy Education), and Clic. Assoc. Prof. Sheila M. Allen (Senior Director, Experiential Education) along with faculty members overseeing teaching, training, and research, including Prof. Jeremy Johnson, Prof. Brian Murphy, Clin. Assoc. Prof. Keri Kim, Clin. Asst. Prof. Nina Huynh, Clin. Prof. Nancy Shapiro, Clin. Asst. Prof. Jamie Benken, and Clin. Assoc. Prof. Maya Campara.
The visit aimed to strengthen and expand the collaboration between the MUPY and UIC, focusing on the development of student exchange programs, joint research opportunities, and the participation of UIC in the Doctor of Pharmacy (International Program) at Mahidol University. In addition, both institutions discussed strategies to advance the pharmacy profession across the ASEAN region under the framework of the "US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium", reflecting their shared commitment to promoting international pharmacy standards.
This collaboration represents a significant milestone in the academic partnership between Thailand and the United States and lays a solid foundation for long-term cooperation in teaching, research, and the development of global pharmacy professionals. Moreover, it aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 4: ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities for all; Goal 10: reducing inequalities within and among countries; and Goal 17: strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing global partnerships for sustainable development.
