MUPY Welcomes Professor Dr. Jeremy Johnson, Visiting Professor from the University of Illinois Chicago

On Friday, October 31, 2025, from 02:00 pm to 04:30 pm, the International Relations Office, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), organized a reception and welcome ceremony for Dr. Jeremy Johnson, visiting scholar from the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois Chicago (UIC), U.S.A., and President of the American Council for Medicinally Active Plants (ACMAP). The event took place at Room 606, Rajaratana Building, and was warmly attended by MUPY Administrative Members led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. The visit provided an excellent opportunity to engage in academic discussions focusing on potential collaborations in academic and research initiatives, as well as the mobility of faculty, staff, and students between the two institutions. Dr. Johnson also met with MUPY administrative and academic members including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Asst. Prof. Dr. Thanika Pathomwichaiwat, Dr. Pongpol Thanuphol, Prof. Dr. Hitoshi Sato, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Savita Chewchinda, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pakatip Ruenraroengsak, Asst. Prof. Dr. Arnatchai Maiuthed, and Dr. Kodcharat Cheevapruk. 

During the morning visit, a guided campus tour was arranged to showcase MUPY’s learning and research environments, including a visit to the Sireeruckhachati Nature Learning Park and the Drug Manufacturing and Pilot Plant (Excellence Training Center for Pharmaceutical and Herbal Products) at Mahidol University, Salaya Campus. The visit was accommodated by Dr. Pongpol Thanuphol and Dr. Methee Phumthum.

The purpose of this visit was to establish and explore global partnerships, initiate meaningful dialogue for long-term academic relationships, and promote mutual understanding aligned with MUPY’s internationalization goals. Discussions also focused on joint research projects, co-hosted academic events, staff and student mobility programs, and capacity-building initiatives that contribute to mutual growth and innovation. Furthermore, a cultural field trip was arranged for Dr. Johnson on Saturday, November 1, 2025, providing an opportunity to experience Thai culture and strengthen collegial ties beyond academic collaboration.

This visit is expected to foster academic collaborations and joint initiatives between the two institutions, particularly in areas of pharmaceutical sciences and medicinal plant research. The activity strongly aligns with the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University’s missions to promote international collaboration in research and innovation, enhance the quality of education to meet international standards, and serve as a hub for academic and professional services in pharmacy and health sciences. Moreover, it contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals, reflecting MUPY’s commitment to advancing global cooperation for sustainable academic and scientific development.
