On Friday, September 12, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 03:00 PM (Bangkok time), the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY) held a virtual meeting via Zoom with representatives from the School of Pharmacy, East China Normal University (ECNU), People's Republic of China. Administrative members from MUPY who participated in this discussion included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wichit Nosoongnoen, Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation; Asst. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Bunsupa, Assistant Dean for Research and Innovation; and Asst. Prof. Dr. Jaturong Pratuangdejkul, Head of the In Silico & Molecular Modeling Platform (MUPY-IMOD). They were joined by Prof. Dr. Xuemei Zhang, Vice Dean of ECNU's School of Pharmacy, and Prof. Dr. Zhiqiang Yan, Assistant Dean of the School of Pharmacy.
The core agenda focused on exploring potential collaborative partnerships in advancing AI-powered scientific research, particularly in the areas of AI-driven drug design (AIDD), intelligent pharmaceutical manufacturing, digital therapeutics, biopharmaceuticals, and innovative drug delivery systems. Both institutions shared perspectives on their common goals, unique strengths, and complementary expertise, laying the foundation for impactful and sustainable cooperation. To formalize this partnership, the institutions plan to begin with a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), followed by a series of collaborative initiatives. These will include short-term joint research projects, staff and student exchange programs, and joint participation in international meetings to exchange knowledge, present innovations, and strengthen global academic networks.
This academic dialogue is expected to lay the foundation for future collaboration and co-creation of research outputs that address pressing global healthcare challenges through interdisciplinary innovation. It aligns directly with the Faculty of Pharmacy’s mission to produce high-quality research and innovation that meets national and international standards. Moreover, the initiative reflects MUPY’s strategic contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4: Quality Education, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Through fostering international collaboration and leveraging AI technology in pharmaceutical sciences, the Faculty continues to pursue academic excellence and contribute to sustainable global health development.
