Orientation for Students from Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Santo Tomas, the Philippines

On Friday, June 27, 2025, from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), through its Department of Biochemistry in collaboration with the International Relations Office, hosted an orientation meeting for the 2025 Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Training Program. Held at Room 710, Rajaratana Building, the welcoming and orientation meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean, along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Wanvisa Udomsinprasert, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, along with other departmental faculty members.

The session marked the official welcome of four exchange students from the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Santo Tomas (UST), the Philippines. The participating students included 1. Mr. Randolf Shem Palban Husain, 2. Mr. Gericho Daniel Gabriel Limuco, 3. Ms. Riezel Mary Mendoza Diaron, and 4. Ms. Erika Naelle Llanes Elfante. The students participated in the 2025 Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Training Program conducted from June 27 to July 23, 2025.

Accompanying the students was Prof. Dr. Ruel Valerio R. De Grano, who joined the event to support the students’ training experience and participate in academic discussions. The orientation aimed to (1) provide a comprehensive overview of the training program, (2) formally welcome the UST delegation, and (3) explore potential avenues for future research collaboration between MUPY and UST. The 2025 Pharmaceutical Biochemistry Training Program was aimed to provide professional training in pharmaceutical biochemistry while enhancing international exposure for both students and academic staff. This initiative aligns with the Faculty’s broader mission to elevate its global presence and academic reputation. Moreover, the program reflects MUPY’s ongoing commitment to fostering international partnerships in pharmaceutical education and research.

Furthermore, this activity corresponded to the Faculty’s mission on terms of serving as the portal for professional services that encompasses drugs, herbal medicine, cosmetics and dietary supplement to support the sustainable development of the nation. It also responded to SDG’s 4th Goal: Quality Education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, 10th Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and 17th Goal: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership.
