On Monday, May 12, 2025, from 9.00 A.M. to 4.30 P.M., Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, visited the College of Pharmacy, University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Illinois, USA, and was warmly welcomed by the UIC executive team led by Prof. Glenn Schumock, Dean of UIC, along with Prof. Edit Nutescu, Head of Pharmacy Practice Department, and Prof. Alan Lau, Director of International Clinical Pharmacy Education.
The purpose of the visit was to strengthen and expand the long-standing collaboration between the two institutions, which has significantly advanced pharmacy education and research over the past three decades. The discussion centered around expansion of student exchange programs, preceptor development, joint research opportunities, and involvement of UIC staff in the teaching of Doctor of Pharmacy Program (International Pharmacy School) at MUPY. Both institutions also shared their vision and commitment to advancing the pharmacy profession across the ASEAN region through the newly established “US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium”.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan gave a special talk entitled “the Impact of US-Thai Pharmacy Consortium on the advancement of pharmacy education, practice and research in Thailand”, which attracted many UIC members.
Moreover, this visit marks an important step toward strengthening international academic collaboration and fostering long-term partnerships between the institutions. It also responded to SDG’s Goal 4: Quality Education to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
