On September 5, 2024, at 9.00 A.M., the Graduate Program in Health Technology Assessment of Mahidol University (MUHTA) arranged an academic conference. Having been held both onsite at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, and online via Zoom meeting, the conference was arranged in the topic of "The Application of Real-World Data and the Role of Patients in Policy Decision Making in Thailand, UK and Taiwan". The conference was attended by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean of Mahidol University's Faculty of Pharmacy, who delivered the opening speech and provided a warm welcome to the participants. There were 79 participants in the meeting.
In the 2-day conference during September 5-6, 2024, several academic lectures were delivered both by the invited speakers from the faculty members of MUHTA Graduate Program led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkeaw, the Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations, and the Program Director, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, MUHTA Lecturer, and by national and international experts including 1) Prof. Olivia Wu from the Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment Unit (HEHTA), University of Glasgow, the United Kingdom 2) Dr. Jasmine Pwu, Chief Exective Officer of the Data Science Center, Fu-Jen Catholic University, Taiwan 3) Dr. Surakameth Mahasirimongkol, Director of the Information Technology & Communication Centre, Ministry of Public Health 4) Dr. Prittaporn Kingkaew, Head of Research Unit, HITAP 5) Dr. Lalitaya Kongkam, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office 6) Mrs. Waraporn Suwanwela, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Health Security Office.
Panel discussion was also held to enhance the knowledge and understanding of participants on the application of Real World Data in Thailand and abroad, and the role of patients in HTA processes and the development of benefit packages. Besides, HTA research studies conducted by MUHTA graduates and students were also showcased and discussed.
Furthermore, the conference contributed to our faculty’s mission to serve as the portal for professional services that encompasses drugs, herbal medicine, cosmetics and dietary supplement to support the sustainable development of the nation, and responded to SDG’s Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all; Goal 10, which seeks to reduce inequality within and among countries; and Goal 17, which aims to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
