On March 19, 2024, from 09:00 a.m. to 04:00 p.m., Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), provided a warm welcome to the executives from Pharco Corporation, led by Dr. Sherine Hassan Abbas Helmy (Chairman of the Board Director) and Dr. Yasser Mohamed Hassan Fayed (Corporate Business Development Director). With its corporate headquarters located in Egypt, Pharco Corporation is a prominent pharmaceutical firm operating throughout the Middle East and North Africa.

One of the most important achievements of the company is the discovery and development of an innovative treatment for hepatitis C viral infection, called ravidasvir. In Thailand, an estimated 500,000 - 800,000 people are living with hepatitis C, amounting to 1-1.5% of the population. An ambitious goal has been set by the Ministry of Public Health to eradicate hepatitis C (HCV) in 2030 by addressing persistent barriers in access to life-saving treatments and diagnostics. As one of the efforts to achieve this goal, Pharco and Mahidol University will partner together to bring ravidasvir to Thai market for the benefit of Thai population.

On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan took Pharco Corporation's executives on a site visit to the Food and Drug Administration's Medicines Regulation Division, Ministry of Public Health, with the goal of acquainting them with the process of medicine registration in Thailand. These executives also met with senior officer of the Division of Disease Control, the Ministry of Public Health to learn more about the current status of hepatitis C infection in Thailand as well as protocols for managing, treating, and preventing this disease.

Subsequently, these executives pay a visit to the Government Pharmaceutical Organization's (GPO) Rangsit 1 Drug Manufacturing Plant, which is situated in Thanyaburi, Pathum Thani Province. During the visit to the plant, GPO has showcased its practice excellence along with production capacity and all key quality control measures to these executives. The two parties exchanged ideas, product lines and opportunities for business partnership between Thailand and Egypt.
