MUHTA Graduate Program Hosted International Special Lecture on Evidence Synthesis in HTA

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the Mahidol University Health Technology Assessment (MUHTA) Graduate Program hosted a special lecture delivered by Prof. Dr. Olivia Wu, William R. Lindsay Chair of Health Economics, Health Economics and Health Technology Assessment (HEHTA) Unit, University of Glasgow, United Kingdom. The event, held at Room 606, Rajaratana Building, was honored by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication, who presided over the opening session and delivered welcoming remarks. The lecture was also joined by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, Program Director of MUHTA Graduate Program, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew.

Prof. Wu presented on “Evidence Synthesis in HTA: From Pairwise to Network Comparisons and Introducing MetaInsight”, offering in-depth insights into advanced methodologies for evidence synthesis in health technology assessment. Her talk highlighted the transition from pairwise to network comparisons and introduced the MetaInsight application as a practical tool to support healthcare decision-making.

The lecture attracted a diverse audience of faculty members, postgraduate students, and professionals in the field of health technology assessment and health policy. In addition to participants from the Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and Social, Economic and Administrative Pharmacy (SEAP) programs, attendees included representatives from Novartis, Rajavithi Hospital, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the Siriraj Health Policy Unit (Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital), the International Health Policy Program Foundation, and the Faculty of Medicine, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, Sri Lanka. The session provided an engaging platform for academic exchange, discussion, and networking among both local and international experts.

This special lecture significantly contributed to strengthening knowledge and research capacity in evidence synthesis for health economics and policy. It also reflects the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University’s mission to cultivate competent graduates, promote internationally recognized research, and serve as a hub for academic services in health sciences for sustainable development. Furthermore, the activity supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education, by advancing evidence-based practices, fostering international collaboration, and enhancing education in health technology assessment.
