On Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), warmly welcomed a distinguished delegation from the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS), for a formal academic visit designed to strengthen global partnerships, share expertise, and initiate future collaborations in pharmaceutical education and research. Led by Prof. Dr. Giorgia Pastorin, Head of Department, the NUS delegation included senior academic leaders and researchers, underscoring a shared commitment to fostering international academic cooperation and building long-term relationships founded on excellence, innovation, and mutual respect.
The itinerary, hosted by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of MUPY, began at Mahidol University’s Salaya Campus, where the delegation visited Mahidol University’s Sireeruckhachati Nature Learning Park. Then, they visited the HRH Prince Father’s Biography and the “Wisdom of the Land” exhibition at the Mahidol Learning Center. The visit continued with a tour of MUPY’s Drug Manufacturing Plant, recognized as an Excellence Training Center for Pharmaceutical and Herbal Products, where the delegation observed pharmaceutical production lines and discussed innovations in sustainable drug development.
In the afternoon at MUPY’s Phayathai Campus, the program featured strategic discussions led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Surakit Nathisuwan and joined by deputy deans and senior faculty members. These discussions focused on exploring joint education programs, internship and professional practice frameworks, co-research initiatives, and collaborative professional development opportunities. As part of the academic exchange, the NUS delegation also delivered a dedicated Presentation and Overview of NUS’s Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, which featured:
1) Research Overview of the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, Faculty of Science, National University of Singapore presented by Prof. Dr. Giorgia Pastorin, Head of Department;
2) Wacker Lab Programme of Research presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Matthias Wacker; and
3) Clinical and Practice Overview presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Teng Bee Choon Christine.
This session provided comprehensive insights into NUS’s research strengths, innovative programs, and academic leadership in pharmaceutical sciences.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of MUPY’s advanced educational and research facilities—including laboratories, research centers, and the Central Research Facility Unit—culminating in a group photo and the exchange of tokens of appreciation as a symbol of the institutions’ shared values and future commitment.
By engaging in global academic dialogue and fostering institutional collaboration, both Mahidol University and the National University of Singapore reaffirm their dedication to advancing healthcare education, promoting knowledge exchange, and contributing to sustainable development through strategic academic partnerships. Notably, this collaborative visit aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 4 (Quality Education), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by promoting high-quality academic training, enhancing research capacity, and building meaningful international partnerships to address shared global health challenges.
