MU-HTA Graduate Program joined the 11th HTAsiaLink Conference 2023

During September 5-7, 2023, the faculty members and graduate students in the graduate programs in Health Technology Assessment Graduate Program (MU-HTA) led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkeaw, the Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations, and the Program Director of MU-HTA, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, and those in the Social, Economic and Administrative Pharmacy Graduate Program led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arthorn Riewpaiboon and Dr. Saowalak Turongkaravee attended the 11th HTAsiaLink Conference 2023 physically held under the theme ’Reshaping and Reshifting Health Technology Assessment in Navigating the Future Landscape’. Having been hosted by the Malaysian Health Technology Assessment Section (MaHTAS) and the HTAsiaLink Network in collaboration with renowned international partners, this international conference was held for four consecutive days starting during September 4-7, 2023 at Mercure Living Putrajaya Hotel, Putrajaya, Malaysia.

In this year's conference, there were many academic lectures and research studies delivered by international experts, researchers, and academics to its international participants. For instance, a pre-conference session was arranged on September 4, 2023. Then, over the 3-day conference, three plenary sessions by 11 invited speakers were also held including 1) Plenary I: Accelerating access of health technologies, 2) Plenary II: Role of HTA in Assessing Public Health Intervention, and 3) Plenary III: Innovative Approaches in Tackling HTA Challenges. Besides, 64 oral presentations and 37 poster presentations were delivered by its international participants, followed by a networking event and a council and member meeting.

The 11th HTAsiaLink Conference 2023 was arranged with the aim of providing a global stage for academics to share and exchange of discussion on the HTA evolution to reshape the role of HTA in response to public health emergencies and preparedness, as well as innovative health technologies, while also simultaneously reshifting the value assessment by strengthening the wider perspectives from patient and public.

HTAsiaLink is a collaborative research network of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) agencies in the Asia-Pacific region established on September 2010. The network started with an aim to strengthen Health Technology Assessment (HTA) research efficiency by sharing HTA information, experiences, and resources within the members. HTAsiaLink also focuses on promoting HTA utilization, developing an efficient methodology for HTA, and encouraging HTA evidences implementation for Universal Health Coverage. HTAsiaLink Annual Conference is the representative academic event that facilitates the exchange of HTA knowledge and experience among member agencies and identifies the development plan for the network next year. Hosted by the member agency annually designated by the HTAsiaLink Board, the conference also functions as the capacity building platform that junior researchers from the member agencies present their study and obtain productive comments from international experts and peers. Around 34 agencies from 17 different countries voluntarily join the network with the common objective of HTA competency improvement.

Furthermore, the conference responded to SDG’s Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
