From September 27, 2026, to October 7, 2026, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, was represented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Bunsupa, Assistant Dean for Research and Innovation, and Mr. Naphat Aonsawang, a doctoral student in the international program in Medicinal Chemistry and Phytochemistry, at the Innovative Bioscience Talent Exchange Hub for NAIST Alumni in Indonesia and Thailand program. The program was hosted by the Division of Biological Sciences (Plant Secondary Metabolism), Nara Institute of Science and Technology (NAIST), Japan, with support from the Networked Exchange, United Strength for Stronger Partnerships between Japan and ASEAN (NEXUS): Young Talents Exchange and Capacity Development Program (NEXUS Y-tec), funded by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), Japan, for fiscal year 2025.
The NEXUS program aims to strengthen research partnerships between Japan and ASEAN member states to jointly advance scientific and technological innovation. Its implementation focuses on three key areas: (1) International Joint Research, which supports collaborative research addressing major shared challenges; (2) Researchers Exchange and Development, which emphasizes capacity building and the professional development of early-career researchers; and (3) Establishing a Collaborative Base, which promotes sustained cooperation in science, technology, and innovation while enhancing the capabilities and functions of existing research platforms.
Participation in the NEXUS program provided an important opportunity for the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, to strengthen international academic and research collaboration, promote student and staff exchanges, and expand its network of sustainable research partnerships. The initiative aligns with the Faculty’s mission to produce research and innovation that meets national and international standards and to develop graduates equipped with the knowledge and competencies needed to respond to societal needs. It also contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, through researcher development and international knowledge exchange; SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, through collaborative scientific research and innovation; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals, through strengthened research partnerships between Japan and ASEAN. These efforts support the Faculty’s continued development and reinforce its commitment to academic excellence and international engagement.
