MUPY Dean Invited as Keynote Speaker at National Conference in Indonesia

On 8–9 October 2026, Associate Professor Surakit Nathisuwan, PharmD, BCPS, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, participated as an invited speaker at a preceptor training workshop and national seminar in Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The invitation was extended by the Association of Indonesian Pharmacy Higher Education (Asosiasi Pendidikan Tinggi Farmasi Indonesia: APTFI).
On 8 October, Associate Professor Nathisuwan delivered a presentation on “Interprofessional Education and Interprofessional Collaboration” at the APTFI Preceptor Training Workshop, held at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Universitas Andalas. He also led a case-based learning session on “Interpersonal Communication, IPE, and Conflict Management.” These sessions aimed to strengthen pharmacy preceptors’ ability to facilitate interprofessional learning, communicate effectively, and support constructive teamwork in healthcare settings.
On 9 October, he served as a keynote speaker at the APTFI National Seminar at The ZHM Premiere Padang hotel, presenting on “Interprofessional Education and Patient Safety in Pharmacy Education.” His presentation explored how interprofessional education prepares pharmacy students to collaborate with other healthcare professionals to promote medication safety and quality patient care.
As APTFI’s annual national meeting, the seminar provides an important platform for advancing the quality of pharmacy education in Indonesia. Distinguished attendees included Professor Junaidi Khotib, Secretary of the Directorate General of Research and Development at the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology; Professor Yandi Syukri, Chairman of APTFI; and Mr. Fadly Amran, Mayor of Padang. This year’s meeting attracted approximately 1,000 participants, including government representatives, university leaders, academics, and pharmacy practitioners from across Indonesia. Presentations were also livestreamed through social media platforms to audiences nationwide.
The engagement provided an opportunity to share the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University’s experience in pharmacy education and interprofessional practice, while promoting knowledge exchange and strengthening academic relationships with Indonesian pharmacy education institutions. It supports the Faculty’s mission, particularly Strategic Priority 5, which seeks to enhance the Faculty’s international visibility and recognition.
The activities also align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3—Good Health and Well-being, through the advancement of scientific knowledge, professional collaboration, and health innovation; and SDG 17—Partnerships for the Goals, through international academic cooperation and cross-border networks. The invitation to deliver a keynote address at Indonesia’s national pharmacy education meeting further reflects the Faculty’s international recognition.
