General Information
The Department of Pharmacognosy is responsible for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students, with a strong emphasis on research and development of medicinal plants and their derivatives. The Department also offers short-term training programs, symposia, and meetings focused on topics related to medicinal plants.
Additionally, the Department provides academic services and conducts research for both government and private sectors, covering all aspects of quality control and assurance for raw materials and herbal formulations. This includes the development of extraction and separation techniques to produce active ingredients for herbal products such as herbal medicines, nutraceuticals, and herbal cosmetics.
The Department currently has eight full-time academic staff members who specialize in various fields, including natural product chemistry, bioactive compound research from medicinal plants, development of analytical methods and quality control for medicinal plants, herbal product development, and plant biotechnology.
