ผู้ป่วยที่ไม่มีประวัติแพ้ยาในกลุ่ม Penicillin โดยทั่วไปแล้วไม่จำเป็นต้องทำ skin tests การทำ skin test ของยาในกลุ่ม cephalosporin ยังไม่มีวิธีที่เชื่อถือได้แน่นอน ดังนั้นหากสงสัยว่าผู้ป่วยมีประวัติแพ้ยา cephalosporin อาจใช้ PGS แทนได้ โดยที่ผู้ป่วยที่มีผล negative ต่อ penicillin จะสามารถใช้ยาในกลุ่ม cephalosporin ได้โดยไม่เกิดอาการแพ้ แต่ถึงแม้ว่าผลจะ positive ต่อ penicillin โอกาสที่จะแพ้ cephalosporin ก็มีน้อย
