กัญชา (cannabis) มีสารสำคัญอยู่หลายชนิด แม้มีการศึกษามากมายถึงฤทธิ์ของสารสำคัญในกัญชาและพบว่ามีฤทธิ์โดยตรงในการทำลายเซลล์มะเร็งหลายชนิดได้ในหลอดทดลองหรือในสัตว์ทดลอง แต่ยังไม่มีการศึกษาเพียงพอที่จะสนับสนุนถึงฤทธิ์ในการทำลายเซลล์มะเร็งในคน ดังนั้นขณะนี้กัญชารวมถึงสารสำคัญในกัญชาจึงไม่ใช่ยารักษาโรคมะเร็ง แต่มีการนำสารสำคัญในกัญชาชนิดที่สังเคราะห์ขึ้น (synthetic cannabinoids) มาใช้ลดอาการอาเจียนที่เกิดจากยารักษาโรคมะเร็ง (ยาเคมีบำบัด) นอกจากนี้ยังมีการศึกษาเพื่อนำมาใช้ลดอาการปวดจากโรคมะเร็ง ตลอดจนช่วยเพิ่มความอยากอาหาร Keywords: กัญชา, cannabis, synthetic cannabinoids, ลดอาการอาเจียน, ลดอาการปวดจากโรคมะเร็ง, เพิ่มความอยากอาหาร
