On August 1, 2022, from 08.30 a.m. - 12.00 p.m., MUPY’s Department of Physiology organized an academic seminar entitled ’Herbal Medicines & Molecular Ageing Research’ at Room V401 and live streamed via the Cisco Webex Meetings platform. This hybrid event was attended by more than 40 participants who were MUPY faculty members, graduate students, and scholars from external affiliations. In this regards, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Worawan Kitphati, Chair of the Physiology Department provided a warm welcome to Prof. Dr. Luminita Paraoan, an invited speaker from UK’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Edge Hill University. She delivered a special lecture in the topic of ’Ageing biology at the intersection of degenerative and proliferative diseases in the eye (and not only)’.
After the lecture, Prof. Dr. Luminita Paraoan and MUPY’s faculty members joined a meeting to establish an academic collaboration with Edge Hill University. The collaboration framework included student exchange and joint educational programs. In addition, a future research collaboration between Edge Hill University and the Centre of Biopharmaceutical Science for Healthy Ageing (BSHA) was further discussed. BSHA is one of MUPY’s research center that was financially supported by Mahidol University in 2020 fiscal year. Also joining the research meeting was Asst. Prof. Dr. Arnatchai Maiuthed, Head of BSHA Center, who accompanied the visitor around the laboratories in the Center as well.
The seminar aimed to disseminate updated knowledge on ageing and relevant issues as well as to initiate an international research network between Edge Hill University and BSHA Center in order to produce a qualified publication and related innovation to society. Besides, this activity responded to SDG’s 3rd Goal: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, 4th Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries, 10th Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and 17th Goal: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
