Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University initiated ASEAN Pharmacy Education Network at the first Time in the history of Thailand and ASEAN

Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University officially organized “The 1st MU–ASEAN Pharmacy Education Network Meeting” during 20-21 May 2013 at Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University. The meeting has been arranged with the objectives to create the platform where Deans/Rectors from 13 prestigious pharmacy schools in ASEAN could share and discuss on the mutual topics related to pharmacy education and research and to open more opportunities to faculties, students and academic staff to better work together as ’One Vision, One Identity, One Community” by 2015 for the benefits of ASEAN people. Here are the names of deans/rectors who participated the meeting: 1. Prof. Dr. Marlar Mynt (Rector of University of Pharmacy, Yangon, Myanmar) 2. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Dang Hoa (Rector of Hanoi University of Pharmacy, Vietnam) 3. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hung Tran (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) 4. Prof. Dr. Daryono Hadi Tjahjono (Dean of School of Pharmacy, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia) 5. Dr. Rahmana Emran Kartasasmita (Vice Dean of School of Pharmacy, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia) 6. Prof. Dr. Subagus Wahyuono (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia) 7. Dr. Christina Avanti (Deputy President for International Affair, University of Surabaya, Indonesia) 8. Dr. Aguslina Kirtishanti (Vice Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Surabaya, Indonesia) 9. Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Jantan (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Malaysia) 10. Dr. Imelda G. Pena (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, University of the Philippines Manila, the Philippines) 11. Prof. Dr. Chheang Sena (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, International University, Cambodia) 12. Assoc. Prof. Dany Pang (Faculty of Pharmacy, International University, Cambodia) 13. Mr. Khamla Phonsayalinkham (Head of Pharmaceutical Science Department, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Heath Science Laos) 14. Prof. Dr. Aishah Adam (Dean of Faculty of Pharmacy, Universiti Teknologi Mara, Malaysia) “The 1st MU–ASEAN Pharmacy Education Network Meeting” is hosted by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University at the first time in the Nation. The meeting is the starting point to promote closer and broader cooperation with 12 leading pharmacy schools for moving toward the advancement of pharmacy education and research in ASEAN countries. The meeting consisted of many interesting presentations and discussion on “Pharmacy System, Education and Research in the ASEAN countries”. In addition, all 12 Deans and Rectors of leading pharmacy schools in ASEAN will join together to discuss ways to develop programs and activities that can be combined to create a network of cooperation among the Faculties of Pharmacy in ASEAN in the future. Based upon discussions held during the meeting, 12 Faculties/Schools of Pharmacy have identified areas of common interest in education and research. In furtherance of mutual goals to promote internationalization of pharmacy education and research in ASEAN countries, all Faculties/Schools of Pharmacy have signed the letter of intent to have pharmacy education and research collaboration. The goal is to establish and reinforce a collaboration and network among all participating pharmacy schools from ASEAN countries to share human resources and provide capacity building for pharmacy education and research and pharmacy system of ASEAN countries which will hopefully lead to the benefits of ASEAN community altogether.
