On December 7, 2023, at 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 p.m., Asst. Prof. Supatat Chumnumwat, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Somying Pumtong, and Asst. Prof. Jennis Meanwatthana provided a warm welcome to three exchange students from Meiji Pharmaceutical University (MPU), Japan. The orientation meeting was held at Room 420, Rajaratana Building.

These three Japanese undergraduate students included 1) Ms. Ami Ogata 2) Mr. Soju Nemoto, and 3) Mr. Shunsuke Nomoto. They participated in the Professional Training Program in Clinical Pharmacy physically arranged by MUPY’s International Relations Unit during December 6, 2023, until February 1, 2024, at the Faculty of Pharmacy and affiliated training sites such as the teaching hospital of Mahidol University, BMA’s Healthcare Service Center No.51, Chaophraya Abhaibhubejhr Hospital, and Phonprasit Pharmacy. The objective of this training program was to provide the participating students with international exposure and experiences focusing on clinical pharmacy practices in different healthcare settings including hospitals, healthcare service centers, and drug stores, allowing them to explore and compare the healthcare system and pharmacy practices of Thailand and Japan as well as to learn more about traditional medicine of both countries.

This training program could help increase mutual understanding of the differences in the profession and responsibilities of pharmacists between the two countries. Besides, participating in this program could help develop the student’s English language skills, cross-cultural communication, and interpersonal communication skills. This also determined to increase academic staff, pharmacists, and student’s worldwide exposure, resulting in leveraging the global visibility of the Faculty of Pharmacy and its training sites.

Furthermore, this exchange program supported the Faculty’s Missions in terms of serving as the portal for professional services that encompasses drugs, herbal medicine, cosmetics and dietary supplement to support the sustainable development of the nation. It also responded to the SDG’s Goal 4th: Reduce inequality within and among countries, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17th: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
