On Monday, June 21, 2021, at 9 a.m., the academic and research laboratories of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University received an assessment according to the ESPReL Safety Standard. Its opening session was hosted by the Chemical Laboratory Safety Committee via the Cisco Webex Meetings. Regarding this, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doungdaw Chantasart, Assistant Dean for Research and Innovation, gave a warm welcoming speech to the committee in the opening session. Then, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Piyanuch Rojsanga, Director of the Chemical Laboratory Safety Committee, gave an overview of the Faculty’s laboratories. After the opening session, Asst. Prof. Soraya Pornsuwan and Dr. Kunaporn Homyok as well as the committee visited 11 MUPY’s laboratories to assess and give an examination for 2 days from June 21 to 22, 2021. During the physical visit, all of the committee, faculty members, and involved staff maintained the social distancing measures and wore face masks in order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Regarding this, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University is an institution striving for academic and research excellence. There are 10 academic departments that operate in the laboratories for teaching, research, and professional services. Therefore, the laboratory operation and practice also need safety standards and management in accordance with the policies of the National Research Council of Thailand. The Faculty of Pharmacy has concerned about this matter; hence, we are encouraging our faculty’s laboratories to receive an ESPReL Standard examination from Mahidol University’s COSHEM.
