On October 17, 2024, from 03:15 P.M. to 04:30 P.M., the representatives of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY) led by Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisawan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong, Acting Deputy Dean for Global Partnerships and Corporate Communication, and faculty members from the graduate program in Health Technology Assessment (MUHTA), led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, Chair of the MUHTA Graduate Program, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap welcomed Prof. Anne Mills, a visiting professor from Health Economics and Policy, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, UK, together with Dr. Viroj Tangcharoensathien, Advisor, and Ms. Woranan Witiapipopsakul from the International Health Policy Program (IHPP), Thailand. The reception was held at Meeting Room 606, Rajaratana Building, during their visit to discuss and initiate collaborations in education and research related to health economics and public health policy between the two institutions.
The discussions explored future joint research projects on health economics and health technology assessment (HTA), focusing on the evaluation of healthcare interventions and public health programs in Thailand and the UK. Both institutions also aimed to collaborate on comparative studies to assess cost-effectiveness, healthcare resource allocation, and policy impact in different healthcare systems. Additionally, there are plans to co-organize academic workshops and seminars to further strengthen the exchange of knowledge and methodologies between Mahidol University’s HTA and SEAP Graduate Programs and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, promoting long-term cooperation in research and capacity building.
In addition, this meeting responded to MUPY’s mission to serve as the portal for professional services that encompasses drugs, herbal medicine, cosmetics and dietary supplement to support the sustainable development of the nation, while responded to SDGs goals including Goal 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
