On November 9-11, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Surakit, in his capacity as the Chairman of the US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium, led a delegation of representatives from leading U.S. Schools of Pharmacy—including Prof. Alan Lau (University of Illinois Chicago), Prof. Michael Katz (University of Arizona), and Prof. Melody Ryan (University of Kentucky)—to Hanoi. The delegation negotiated bi-regional cooperation with Prof. Nguyen Hai Nam, Rector of Hanoi University of Pharmacy (HUP), to elevate pharmaceutical academic standards across ASEAN through U.S. partnership. The delegation also visited the pharmacy departments of major national hospitals, including Central Military Hospital 108 and Huu Nghi Hospital.
During their visit, the Dean and the U.S. representatives served as speakers at the International Academic Conference of the Hanoi Association of Hospital Pharmacists. Assoc. Prof. Surakit specifically showcased the advancements in Thailand's pharmacy profession, emphasizing the critical role of pharmacists in specialized clinical pharmacy services under the nation’s Universal Health Coverage system, a model recognized as leading the ASEAN region. This success is rooted in the previous US-Thai Pharmacy Consortium, which laid the groundwork for the establishment of the broader US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium at Mahidol University in 2024. The consortium’s next major event, the 1st US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium Meeting, is scheduled for June 3-5, 2026, at the University of Iowa, USA.
These collaborative efforts aligns with the Faculty's mission to be a center for academic services in pharmaceuticals, herbal medicine, cosmetics, and food for sustainable national development, supporting the following Sustainable Development Goals: Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17: Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
