On January 23, 2024, from 09:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Graduate Program in Health Technology Assessment of Mahidol University (MUHTA) arranged PMAC 2024 Side Meeting. Having been held at Centara Grand & Bangkok Convention Centre, the meeting was arranged in the topic of "Strengthening Health Technology Assessment (HTA) capacity in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) to support Universal Health Coverage: How equity was considered in health policy decision makings".
The meeting was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkeaw, the Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations, and the Program Director of MU-HTA, Prof. Dr. Ammarin Thakkinstian, the Director of MUHTA Doctoral Program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arthorn Riewpaiboon, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Montarat Thavorncharoensap, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Sitaporn Youngkong along with MUHTA students.
In the meeting, several lectures were delivered by invited speakers such as Prof. Ole F Norheim, the Director of Bergen Centre for Ethics and Priority Setting (SFF), University of Bergen, Norway, Dr. Phusit Prakongsai from the Faculty of Medicine at Ramathibodi Hospital. Panel discussion, which was shared by MUHTA alumni, was also held to highlight how equity issues have been considered in the assessment and decision-making, possible mechanisms to formally integrate equity consideration into UHC, challenges, and the way forward.
Besides, HTA research studies conducted by MUHTA graduates and students were also showcased and discussed since they were used to support policy decision-making in the Philippines, India, Vietnam, Bangladesh, and Thailand, thereby supporting healthcare decisions in their countries. This contributed to a wide range of HTA capacity building in LMICs including education, training, and generating evidence to support national decision makers.
