During June 18-25, 2023, four undergraduate students from Mahidol University’s Faculty of Pharmacy took part in the SDGs+ Mahidol University Projects (SDGs MaPs) Program arranged in Indonesia. The SDGs MaPs Program was hosted by Mahidol University’s International Relations Division (MUIR). The students included 1) Ms. Chayapa Kaprasit 2) Ms. Panfa Sirichan 3) Mr. Natee Wutthikasetkit and 4) Ms. Jiraya Klangtipparat. There were also 16 undergraduate students of Mahidol University who joined this overseas trip. In the program, the students had an opportunity to visit the Airlangga University (UNAIR) as part of the SDGs MaPs Program.

The activities included the official visit at UNAIR's Institute of Tropical Disease where the participating students could learn and discuss about Tuberculosis situation in Surabaya. They also explored UNAIR's learning facilities and scientific laboratories such as Dengue, Protein extraction, and NMR. UNAIR's Ethnographic Museum and Center of Death Study was also observed before they left the University. In addition, the students had an opportunity to visit Kebun Raya Purwodadi which was the botanical garden and Kampung Jambangan Village which was the sustainable community-based development model for ecological tourism. At the Village, they learned how to manage household waste properly, how to sort waste between dry and wet waste, and the benefits of good waste management. They also learned the cooperation of the villagers in gathering garbage and recycling to make money for their own households as well as practiced a creation of eco-enzymes using organic waste from household garbage. Last, they visited Bali to learn more about Indonesian tradition and culture.

The program aimed to enhance the students' learning opportunities and active engagement in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and also foster their positive attitude towards ASEAN countries and neighboring nations. The visit was also aimed to introduce the numerous exciting initiatives available for college residents and empower them to actively engage with SDGs through programs and activities. Participating students were provided with the chance to improve their English language skills and gain cross-cultural experiences, which are essential for their future education and career pursuits.

This activities responded to SDG’s 3rd Goal: Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages, 4th Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries, 6th Goal: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all, 10th Goal: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and 17th Goal: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership.

Thank you Mahidol University’s International Relations Division (MUIR) for hosting this program for MU students.
