Ceftriaxone เป็นยาปฏิชีวนะในกลุ่ม cephalosporin ตามข้อมูลจากผู้ผลิตยาฉีด ceftriaxone แนะนำให้บริหารยาทางหลอดเลือดแบบ intravenous drip (IV infusion) อย่างน้อย 30 นาที หรือทางกล้ามเนื้อ Roberts J.A. และคณะ ได้ทำการศึกษาทางคลินิกแบบสุ่ม โดยสุ่มแบ่งคนไข้ออกเป็นสองกลุ่ม คือ กลุ่มที่ได้รับ ceftriaxone แบบ IV infusion และกลุ่มที่ได้รับ ceftriaxone แบบ IV bolus พบว่าคนไข้ที่ได้รับยาติดต่อกันอย่างน้อย 4 วัน ที่ได้รับการบริหารยาด้วย IV infusion มี Clinical cure และ Proven bacterial eradication สูงกว่ากลุ่มที่บริหารยาแบบ IV bolus ในด้านความปลอดภัย การศึกษาเปรียบเทียบการบริหารยาทั้งสองแบบ ต่อการเกิดนิ่วในถุงน้ำดีในเด็กอายุ 6 เดือนถึง 16 ปี พบว่ากลุ่มที่บริหารยา ceftriaxone แบบ IV bolus มีอุบัติการณ์การเกิดนิ่วในถุงน้ำดีสูงกว่ากลุ่มที่บริหารยาแบบ IV infusion จากข้อมูลดังกล่าว สรุปได้ว่าการบริหารยา ceftriaxone แบบ IV infusion มีความเหมาะสม ทั้งในด้านประสิทธิภาพและความปลอดภัยมากกว่าการบริหารยาแบบ IV bolus Key words: ceftriaxone, administration, intravenous, infusion, bolus, side effect
