The root of white ¡§Kwao Krua¡¨ has been used by Thai people as a rejuvenating folk medicine for a
long period of time. The uterotropic activity and the TLC of the ethanolic and the dichloromethane extracts of
white ¡§Kwao Krua¡¨ roots from two sources, Pueraria candollei Benth. var. mirifica (Airy Shaw & Suvat)
Niyomdham and Pueraria candollei Benth. var. candollei were determined and compared. In uterotropic assay,
the ethanolic and the dichloromethane extracts at doses ranging from 1 to 10 and 0.1 to 1 mg/kg/day, respectively,
were given orally to immature female rats for 3 consecutive days. In TLC determination, the extracts were
submitted to silica gel GF254 plates using two developing solvent systems, chloroform : methanol (8:2) and ethyl
acetate : chloroform (6:4). The results revealed a higher uterotropic potency of the dichloromethane extract over
the ethanolic extract, and the extracts of Pueraria candollei var. mirifica exhibited higher uterotropic activity than
those of Pueraria candollei var. candollei. TLC chromatograms of the extracts of white \"Kwao Krua\" from two
sources were similar. The bands of daidzein and genistein were more clearly seen on the dichloromethane
chromatogram than on the ethanolic chromatogram of white \"Kwao Krua\" roots from both sources. ÆÉAll rights reserved.
