Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, led a delegation of five senior executives from Thailand’s Government Pharmaceutical Organization (GPO) on a business trip to Egypt from September 9-13, 2024. The purpose of the visit was to explore future collaboration between the GPO and Pharco Pharmaceuticals, a leading pharmaceutical company based in Alexandria, Egypt, with a strong reputation in the production of medicines for hepatitis and other viral diseases.

During the visit, the delegation toured Pharco’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities and engaged in productive discussions with Pharco’s leadership team. The key topic of discussion was the potential collaboration between GPO and Pharco Pharmaceuticals, particularly in the joint production and distribution of Hepatitis C medicine, a critical area of focus for both countries. This initiative aimed to improve access to affordable treatments and address the growing public health challenges posed by Hepatitis C, both in Thailand and internationally.

The visit also marked a significant step forward in fostering closer ties between Thailand and Egypt in the field of pharmaceuticals and healthcare, and it was expected to contribute to the development of improved treatments for Hepatitis C in the near future.
