Dilantin®(Phenytoin sodium) สำหรับฉีด มีวิธีการบริหารยาทางหลอดเลือดดำ ดังนี้ ขนาดการให้ยา loading dose (LD) คือ 10-15 mg/kg (Manufacturer recommendation) หรือ 15-25 mg/kg จากนั้นตามด้วย maintenance dose (MD) คือ 5-6mg/kg/day แบ่งให้วันละ 3 ครั้ง หรือ 100 mg ทุก 8 ชั่วโมง (เริ่มให้ MD dose แรกหลังจากให้ LD เสร็จไปแล้ว 8 ชั่วโมง ไม่ต้องรอให้ครบ 24 ชั่วโมงครับ) อัตราการให้ยา (ความเข้มข้น 4-10 mg/ml) ต้องไม่เกิน 50mg/minute ในผู้ป่วยที่อายุน้อยกว่า 50 ปี แต่ในกรณีที่ผู้ป่วยอายุมากกว่า 50 ปี หรือมีปัญหาเกี่ยวกับหัวใจอาจจะต้องลดอัตราการให้ยาลง เช่น 20 mg/ml ระวังการเกิด extravasation ด้วย (phenytoin มีคุณสมบัติเป็น vesicant drug) จากนั้นจึงฉีด normal saline ผ่านเข็มเดิมหรือ I.V. catheter เพื่อป้องกันการระคายเคืองจากความเป็นด่างของสารละลาย
