Thai FDA, MUPY, and United States Pharmacopoeia initiated the first training for Thai FDA inspectors under the Promoting Quality of Medicine Plus (PQM+) Project
">During January, 14-16, 2025, Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), in collaboration with Mahidol University's Faculty of Pharmacy (MUPY), and the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP) initiated the first training program for Thai FDA inspectors under the Promoting Quality of Medicine Plus (PQM+) Project, a global project funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) from the United States of America. Having been held at the Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok, the first training program of the series was “Training Course on the Good Storage, Distribution and Transportation Practices (GSDP) including Inspection” which was organized during January, 14-16, 2025. The opening speech was delivered by Dr. Worasuda Yongthong, Director of Medicines Regulation Division, Thai FDA.
For MUPY, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Luerat Anuratpanich and Asst. Prof. Dr. Farsai Chanjaruporn joined the activities as both speakers and participants with the support of Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, MUPY Dean. Distinguished delegates and speakers from USP included Mr. Mehmood Anwar, Director- Asia region, PQM+ Program, Dr. Ankasha Arif (Consultant, PQM+ Program), Dr. Syed Sultan Ghani (former senior executive at Health Canada), Dr. Najam us Saquib Mughal, PQM+ Program consultant). Attendants were 38 FDA officers and 2 faculty members of MUPY.
PQM+ is a program aimed at improving the quality assurance systems for medicines in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) in Asia and Africa. Through decades of fruitful and long-standing relationship between MUPY/USP and MUPY/Thai FDA, a tripartite agreement is forged to pursue a leadership role in uplifting the standard of medicine in Thailand and Southeast Asian region to meet the evolving world standard. The key activity is to initiate a series of “Training of the Trainers” program aiming to strengthen advanced knowledge, and increasing skills of national regulatory bodies in Thailand toward evolving world standard of medicine quality, with long-term plan of going beyond country boundary to support all countries in the ASEAN region.
