Methotrexate in Rheumatoid ArthritisNonglek Boonchoong
-
Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease characterized by joint inflammation, joint destruction and alteration in immune response. The direct impact of disease to the patients includes a decrease in the activity of daily living leading to disability and premature death. The management of disease concerns both non-drug and drug therapy. For the latter, treatment is normally initiated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agents as a first choice to control symptoms. However, the use of second line or disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) is required in order to change the disease progression. Several drugs are classified in this group and methotrexate is one of these. © All right reserved.
