Tobacco is one of the leading causes of various severe lung diseases and death. Unfortunately, the number of new smoker, especially in young population has been increasing. Several national and international organizations struggle to develop various strategies for promoting smoking cessation and reducing new smokers. Clinical practice guideline is one strategy to help clinicians to identify smokers and help them to stop smoking. The “5 A’s” strategy which consists of ask, advise, assess, assist and arrange is elaborated in this article. In addition, the detail of non-pharmacotherapy and pharmacotherapy of smoking cessation are included.
