On Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM, Associate Professor Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), paid an official visit to the Retzky College of Pharmacy at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in Illinois, USA. The MUPY delegation received a warm welcome from UIC’s distinguished faculty members and executives, led by Professor Alan Lau (Director of International Clinical Pharmacy Education) and Clinical Professor Nancy Shapiro (President-Elect of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy). Also in attendance were key faculty members responsible for academic instruction, professional clerkships, and research, including Clinical Associate Professor Keri Kim, Clinical Assistant Professor Nina Huynh, Clinical Assistant Professor Beatrice Drambarean, Clinical Assistant Professor Benito Valdepenas, and Clinical Associate Professor Maya Campara.
The primary objective of this visit was to strengthen and expand the long-standing collaboration between the two institutions. The discussions focused heavily on driving the advancement of the pharmacy profession within the ASEAN region under the cooperative framework of the "US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium." This strategic dialogue underscores the pivotal roles of both universities in elevating international professional standards for pharmacy.
This renewed partnership marks another significant milestone in fostering academic relations between Thailand and the United States. It establishes a solid foundation for long-term collaborative efforts in teaching, research, and international human resource development in pharmaceutical sciences. Furthermore, this initiative directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), actively contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education by fostering lifelong learning opportunities; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by bridge-building educational capacities; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the enhancement of global and regional academic alliances for sustainable development.
