From May 19 to 21, 2026, Associate Professor Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University (MUPY), attended the prestigious International Commission meeting of the International Service Program (ISP), held by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Assoc. Prof. Nathisuwan participated in this global forum as an appointed committee member representing international pharmacy education institutions. Established in 1932 and recognized by both the Council on Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education, the Chicago-based ACPE is a premier non-profit organization responsible for the quality assessment and accreditation of pharmacy education programs worldwide. Its board comprises distinguished experts from the American Council on Education, the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP), the American Pharmacists Association (APhA), and the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP).
During the session, Assoc. Prof. Nathisuwan successfully negotiated strategic collaborations with the ACPE to elevate the quality of pharmacy education across the ASEAN region. Key initiatives include inviting the ACPE to participate in the US-ASEAN Pharmacy Consortium and organizing a regional workshop at the upcoming Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA) event. This collaborative framework, which received an enthusiastic response, position Thailand as a central hub for international cooperation in advancing regional pharmacy education, with operations scheduled to commence in November 2026. Furthermore, Mahidol University will serve as the primary coordinator to support and assist all interested pharmacy faculties in Thailand and the wider ASEAN region in pursuing world-class quality assurance standards.
The appointment of MUPY’s executive to the ISP International Commission is a prestigious honor that underscores Mahidol University’s growing international visibility on the global stage. In alignment with Mahidol University’s "World-Class University" policy, the Faculty of Pharmacy has also initiated the ACPE accreditation process for both its Thai and international Bachelor of Pharmacy programs to showcase its global educational standards. This international engagement directly responds to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically contributing to SDG 4: Quality Education by ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education; SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities by bridge-building educational capacities between nations; and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals through the strengthening of global and regional academic alliances for sustainable development.
