MUPY Hosts International Regulatory Science Forum 2026 on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products

On Friday, March 20, 2026, from 08:30 a.m. to 04:30 p.m., the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the University of Southern California, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and Taipei Medical University, organized the International Regulatory Science Forum 2026 under the theme “Global Landscape of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMP) in Healthcare.” The event was held at Room 206, Rajaratana Building. On this occasion, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., FRCP, President of Mahidol University, presided over the opening ceremony and delivered welcoming remarks to a total of 142 participants and experts from around the world.

The forum featured lectures by distinguished experts in Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) from both Thailand and abroad. The Thai speakers included Prof. Dr. Leena Suntornsuk, a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University; Asst. Prof. Rochapon Wacharotayankun, Pharmacy Council Advisor; Dr. Piyanant Boonprasert, a senior officer from the Medicines Regulation Division, Thai FDA; and Assoc. Prof. Supannikar Tawinwung, a faculty member in the Department of Pharmacology and Physiology, Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University.

The international speakers included Assoc. Prof. Eunjoo Huisung Pacifici (Chair of the Department of Regulatory and Quality Sciences, University of Southern California), Dr. Martin Koning-Bastiaan (Executive Director of Human Research Protections and Research Technology, University of Southern California), Distinguished Prof. Chi-Ying Huang (Dean of the College of Pharmaceutical Sciences, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University), Asst. Prof. Dr. Ocean Wan-Hsuan Chou (Genetic Cancer Risk Assessment Specialist, Taipei Medical University Hospital), Prof. Dr. Shawn Hsiang-Yin Chen (Vice Dean of the College of Pharmacy, Taipei Medical University), and Asst. Prof. Shao-chin Chiang (Assistant Professor, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University).

The primary objective of this forum is to establish an international platform for exchanging knowledge and advanced developments in Regulatory Science, with a specific focus on Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). This is achieved through the synergistic academic collaboration between Mahidol University and leading educational networks from the United States and Taiwan. The initiative aims to elevate health product regulatory standards to align with international benchmarks while fostering an ecosystem that promotes innovation and equitable access to cutting-edge medical technologies. Ultimately, this will serve as a key mechanism in driving drug security and enhancing the potential of the Thai pharmaceutical industry to become a sustainable regional leader in medical innovation.

Furthermore, the organization of this international academic conference fulfills the Faculty's mission to serve as an academic service hub for pharmaceuticals, herbal products, cosmetics, and food in pursuit of national sustainable development; it further aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) by promoting public health through the development of safe and effective therapeutic technologies, SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) by supporting advanced medical innovation, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals) by emphasizing international collaboration to drive knowledge exchange, regulatory oversight, and equitable, sustainable access to health innovations.
