From October 31 to November 2, 2024, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy at Mahidol University, actively participated in the 30th Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Association (FAPA) Congress, organized by the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Association (FAPA) in collaboration with the Korean Pharmaceutical Association (KPA). The 30th FAPA 2024 Congress was held under the main theme “Next Generation Pharmacists in Asia” from October 29 to November 2, 2024, at the COEX Convention & Exhibition Center in Seoul, Republic of Korea. The 30th FAPA 2024 Congress would be a fruitful congress for Asian pharmacists to discuss the rapid changes in pharmaceutical and healthcare environments, such as digital health, AI, and precision medicines, and how to prepare for these environmental changes in the future.
On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Surakit Nathisuwan along with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Busba Chindavijak and Assoc. Prof. Thida Ningsanont also presented a congratulatory bouquet to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, Chair of the Graduate Program in Health Technology Assessment (MUHTA), in recognition of her receiving the 2024 FAPA Ishidate Award in Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations (FAPA). The FAPA Ishidate Award was presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to the field of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences.
The presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew at the Awards Ceremony of the 30th FAPA 2024 Congress, held on October 31, 2024, highlighted her outstanding research work and dedication to advancing health technology assessment (HTA) capacity. As the Program Director of Mahidol University's HTA Graduate Program, she has conducted economic evaluations for policy decisions in Thailand and contributed to establishing HTA standards, significantly influencing healthcare policy in Thailand and ASEAN countries. Her contributions have not only enhanced the academic and research landscape but have also made a profound impact on public health policy and practice.
In addition, on November 1, ,2024, as part of the congress program, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chaikledkaew, the recipient of the 2024 FAPA Ishidate Award, delivered a special lecture entitled “Integrating Health Technology Assessment (HTA) into Policy Decision Making for Universal Health Coverage (UHC): Experiences from Thailand and Other ASEAN Countries.” Her lecture provided insights into the vital role of HTA in shaping effective and sustainable healthcare policies for universal health coverage, drawing from Thailand's progress and contributions to HTA standards in the ASEAN region.
The 30th FAPA 2024 Congress featured a comprehensive program, including a Pre-Congress Forum and Workshop that set the stage for engaging discussions. The Opening Ceremony showcased the significance of collaboration within the pharmaceutical community, followed by the FAPA Awards honoring distinguished contributions. Keynote Lectures and Plenary Forums provided invaluable insights into contemporary issues in pharmacy practice. Participants engaged in Oral and Poster Presentations, with opportunities for Poster Viewing and Exhibition, fostering an exchange of innovative ideas. The Congress also included parallel sessions covering diverse topics such as Pharmacy Education, Hospital & Clinical Pharmacy, Community Pharmacy, Social and Administrative Pharmacy, Medicines and Health Information, Industrial Pharmacy and Marketing, and Scientific Sections. Awards were given to the Best Presenters, culminating in a memorable Gala Dinner that celebrated the achievements of participants.
Furthermore, participating in this global Congress also responded to SDG’s Goal 4th: Reduce inequality within and among countries, Goal 10: Reduce inequality within and among countries, and Goal 17th: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
