Research Project Presentation by Exchange Students from Kyushu University

On March 24, 2023, from 01.00 p.m. – 03.00 p.m., MUPY’s International Relations Unit cohosted a hybrid research project presentation session with the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University, Japan. This hybrid event was held at Room V501 and broadcasted via the Zoom Meeting platform. In this regard, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew, the Deputy Dean for International and Public Relations, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Krisada Sakchaisri, Asst. Prof. Dr. Benyakan Pongkitwitoon, and Dr. Amporn Songkasiri joined this students' presentation at Room V501. Meanwhile, the Zoom Meeting platform was attended by Asst. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Bunsupa, the faculty members of the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kyushu University, led by Prof. Dr. Kenji Hamase and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Seiichi Sakamoto. Also joined the Zoom Meeting platform included by the faculty members of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chulalongkorn University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Jittima Luckanagul, its Vice Dean for Global Engagement and International Affairs, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Varalee Yodsurang, who accommodated exchange students from Kyushu University as well.

This year, Kyushu University’s School of Pharmaceutical Sciences had sent six exchange students to Thailand to undertake their internship program in pharmaceutical sciences research at Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University, three students at each university. For MUPY, the research internship program was commenced from February 22, 2023 until March 27, 2023. Three Kyushu students had visited their advisors' research laboratories and carried out their research project under a supervision of their advisors as the details shown below.

1) Ms. Iku HIROYASU joined the laboratory in Pharmacology field, and presented her research work entitled "Induction of apoptosis in MCF-7 cells by compound A" which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Krisada Sakchaisri.

2) Ms. Tsumugi MITSUO joined the laboratory in Pharmacognosy field, and presented her research work entitled "Exploring the Potential of Methoxyflavone Production through Elicitation in Kaempferia parviflora and Profiling of Volatile Oil Constituents in Select Thai Medicinal Plants" which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Somnuk Bunsupa.

3) Ms. Yume SADATO joined the laboratory in Pharmaceutical Botany field, and presented her research work entitled "Analysis of plant bioactive compounds and study of edible pigments from plants" which was supervised by Asst. Prof. Dr. Benyakan Pongkitwitoon.

After the research project presentation, the exit presentation of these exchange students was also held to receive their feedbacks in terms of academic and non-academic aspects, followed by the certificate awarding given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Usa Chaikledkaew and their advisors to mark the completion of their overseas internship program at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University. Moreover, this activities responded to the SDG’s Goal 4th: Reduce inequality within and among countries and Goal 17th: Partnership for the Goals to strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
