The toxicity studies were carried out in male and female rats with a 95% ethanol extract of A. philoxeroides Griseb. The oral acute toxicity test at 5,000 mg/kg revealed that the ethanol extract did not produce toxic effects on signs, general behaviors, mortality and gross appearance of internal organs of rats. In addition, the oral subacute toxicity studies in rats at the dose of 1,000 mg/kg/day displayed no significant changes in body and internal organs weights, hematological and clinical blood chemistry values. Pathological examination showed normal architecture of all internal organs. Thus, the ethanol extract of A. philoxeroides did not produce oral acute or subacute toxicity in rats. „¦Allright reserved.
